MEDIATION

Therapist

Claire Heller - South West Mediation

Briefly explanation of the Therapy

Mediation works with couples when a relationship has ended. It does not work to keep couples together but helps them sort out issues such making arrangements for the children, and sorting out finances, in a thoughtful and co-operative way. Solutions through family mediation can be reached more quickly and less expensively than outcomes arrived at through solicitors or by way of court proceedings.

What can the client expect at the appointment

Those involved will discuss matters with Jane Churchill, the Mediator.  Usually it will be a joint meeting with the other party and the mediator. In some circumstances the parties may be in separate rooms.

She will listen in a calm, reflective and confidential environment having established the boundaries within which you will be working.

What will happen in a session

Mediators do not take sides or tell you what to do.

The clients negotiate the agenda. The main issues are different for each couple but generally we have a meeting for about 1 ½ hours and if proposals are reached, and financial disclosure is achieved the Mediator produces documents which document these outcomes.

How many sessions should the client need before they see a result

Usually 2-3 meetings, although some couples can sort out their issues in a single meeting.

What can the Therapy help

This helps many couples who are facing separation or divorce and who are finding problems are holding them back.  It provides them with an environment in which they can talk about issues with a third party who will not take sides but who will facilitate balanced and productive discussion. It can be particularly helpful where children are involved.

It helps with the anxiety and worry about the issues resulting in parting and also helps with practical steps moving forward.

Who would benefit from this type of Therapy

All couples who are parting or have been apart for some time who have unresolved issues.

Personal recommendation/s from previous client/s:

“I found mediation very quick to get results and would think less stressful than courts.”

"I would recommend you to someone else if they needed mediation because of the excellent service you provide and good value for money.”

“It helped me in talking logically rather than emotionally.”

"Mediation gave a more friendly and approachable solution to an otherwise difficult situation.”
